The STEM Carnival will feature a wide range of engaging demonstrations and hands on activities from UW STEM Faculty, students, programs and local businesses! This year we will have an Engineering focus and attendees will get the chance to explore facilities such as the UW Markerspace, Drilling Rig Simulator, Cybersecurity lab, Driving Simulator and much more! Come learn and experience STEM!

Makerspace/Innovation Wyrkshop: The Innovation Wyrkshop is one of the largest makerspaces in the Mountain West. With over 2 million dollars' worth of emergent and traditional technology, the Wyrkshop is free for university and community use no matter your age or experience. The Wyrkshop's goal is to provide accessibility to makers of all types and to give them the tools, confidence, and empowerment they need to make their own future.
Drilling Simulator: Provides students with the full simulated experience of drilling oil reservoirs. The students can experience and appreciate what ‘could go wrong’ in a drilling operation and well design. This simulator is an excellent tool to develop drilling related skills to expect the unexpected!
Cybersecurity Lab: Provides centralized resources, communication, and activities to university, government, community, and industry partners in all aspects relating to cybersecurity. Students can learn about drone swarms, user account security, machine learning, information leaks, artificial immune systems, and more.
Planetarium Show: Experience the planets and stars through an immersive planetarium show and learn about the night sky.
Driving Simulation Lab: Experience driving at the only Driving Simulator Lab in the State of Wyoming. The motion-base driving simulator consists of both a passenger vehicle and a freight truck open cockpit cabs. The simulator has a high-fidelity control loading system that provides force-feedback on the steering wheel and brakes based on the vehicle state. Rich audio cueing is provided via 3000W 5.1 multi-speaker sound system. In addition, one low frequency vibration transducer is mounted on the vehicle floor to provide engine and road feel vibrations.
Hydrocarbon Lab: Learn about the cutting-edge research at the Hydrocarbon Lab where they work to squeeze out a higher percentage of oil and gas from below our feet in Wyoming and across the world to fuel our modern society!
Artificial Intelligence Lab: Advanced materials and manufacturing are important pillars and drivers of today’s economy. They have made consumer devices like TVs and computers ubiquitous by enabling cheap mass production of reliable products, and enabled industrial applications on a scale not seen before. However, designing new materials is a slow and laborious process, requiring significant investments in capital and labor. Artificial intelligence allows to improve and speed up this process. The center merges synergistic expertise at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences in materials development, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science for the development of powerful methods to design and model the behavior of advanced materials and manufacture advanced devices.
Produced Water Lab: Come see how the University of Wyoming’s Center for Excellence in Produced Water Management is developing new technologies to produce clean water for you and your community and for industries, like oil and gas extraction and hard-rock mining, and desalinizing ocean water!
Geology Museum: The UW Geological Museum features a variety of displays to illustrate Wyoming's past environments, highlighted by a 75-foot Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus) skeleton that dominates the museum's exhibit hall. Another highlight is "Big Al," a display of the most complete Allosaurus fossil ever found.
