Stage Combat Workshop

Department of Theatre and Dance

Come join us May 5th & 6th, 2018, for one or both days of intensive stage combat instruction in a variety of styles.

Classes will likely include:

  • Sneaky ninja tricks, unarmed and armed

  • Aikido for Actors

  • Fighting for Film

  • Scrappy Fighting

SCHEDULE

The general schedule for both days is:

  • 9:00 a.m., check-in and announcements

  • 9:30 a.m., warm-up

  • 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.., classes

    • 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.., session 1

    • 1:00 p.m.. - 2:45 p.m., session 2

    • 3:00 p.m.. - 4:30 p.m.., session 3

Saturday evening we will have a social/Q&A time with the instructors at 5pm.

Sunday we will have certification tests for students who have gone through the required coursework this year, as well as the opportunity to renew certifications.

The UWYO Stage Combat workshops have benefited from grant money from the Wyoming Arts Council, which has helped us to keep costs down.

 

REGISTRATION

REGISTRATION is open to anyone 18 and older (younger may be considered with parental consent, but high school age is minimum).  The registration fee is as follows:

  • University of Wyoming Students are $35/day, $60 for both days

  • Non-UW students, $45 for one day or $80 for both days (this is the cheapest SAFD-sponsored regional workshop to attend in the nation!)

  • SAFD members in good standing can receive an additional 10% off

WAIVER

You will be required to sign a waiver and a model release before participating in any classes. Anyone under 18 will need a parent or guardian's signature on this.

WHAT TO BRING

All prop weaponry will be provided for the workshop, but please bring:

  • Water,

  • Snacks (to be eaten outside the theatre rooms), and

  • Clothes you can move in.

Gloves (typically unlined leather) are optional, but some people prefer to wear them for sword classes. Anyone wishing to bring their own props must have them approved by the workshop coordinator.

WHERE TO STAY

Those coming in from out of town can find local accommodations here.

CERTIFICATIONS

Anyone wanting to renew their certifications, please should contact Kevin Inouye at kinouye@uwyo.edu to make those arrangements. Standard SAFD fees will apply to renewals.
