SafeRide Marks 10th Anniversary at UW

February 14, 2011 — SafeRide, the University of Wyoming's free public transportation system for UW students and the Laramie community, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.

SafeRide representatives will host an open house/birthday party from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the downtown office, located at 403 S. 3rd Street.

The program has provided more than 250,000 rides, and ridership now averages about 30,000 per year. SafeRide's budget is $180,000, which is covered by the Associated Students of UW student fee that is collected each semester from full- and part-time students. Additionally, CoPSA (the Coalition to Prevent Substance Abuse) and WyoTech are major supporters and have helped fund the program.

A proclamation noting SafeRide's 10th anniversary will be read at Tuesday's Laramie City Council meeting.
