SafeRide Marks 10th Anniversary at UW

February 14, 2011

SafeRide, the University of Wyoming's free public transportation system for UW students and the Laramie community, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.

SafeRide representatives will host an open house/birthday party from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the downtown office, located at 403 S. 3rd Street.

The program has provided more than 250,000 rides, and ridership now averages about 30,000 per year. SafeRide's budget is $180,000, which is covered by the Associated Students of UW student fee that is collected each semester from full- and part-time students. Additionally, CoPSA (the Coalition to Prevent Substance Abuse) and WyoTech are major supporters and have helped fund the program.

A proclamation noting SafeRide's 10th anniversary will be read at Tuesday's Laramie City Council meeting.
