Lupe Fiasco to Perform at UW

November 17, 2011 — Lupe Fiasco, a Chicago-based rapper, will perform at the University of Wyoming at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

The doors will open at 8 p.m. Tickets for UW students will go on sale Monday, Nov. 21, for $20. Tickets for non-students will go on sale Tuesday, Nov. 22, for $30. Tickets can be purchased at the Wyoming Union information desk, the Fine Arts box office and online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Fiasco's first two albums, "Food & Liquor" (2006) and "The Cool" (2007), earned him a reputation as a rap philosopher, a sharp, dynamic lyricist and an MC who could shock you, make you think, make you dance, and make you laugh, all without resorting to vulgarity or tired hip-hop alliterations.

Fiasco also released a revolutionary album titled "LASERS" -- an acronym for "Love Always Shines Every Time: Remember to Smile."

"LASERS" was a reflection of a 14-point manifesto Fiasco composed to guide him on the project, including items like "We want substance in the place of popularity" and "We will not compromise who we are to be accepted by the crowd."

The album has reached new heights of lyrical and musical mastery, while aiming to reach even bigger audiences. The album has spawned an exuberant hit single, "The Show Goes On," which re-introduced Fiasco to fans after a four-year absence.

"LASERS" features some of the most thought-provoking rhymes and concepts Fiasco has ever conceived combined with irresistible melodies, production by the likes of Jerry Wonder and The Neptunes, as well as collaborations with John Legend, Trey Songz and others.

The concert is sponsored by Concerts and Convocations. People needing assistance to attend the event can call (307) 766-6340.
