University of Wyoming Gallery 234 will present the photography exhibition "Aarti Home Photovoice Project: Visual Stories of Suffering, Spirit & Hope in India," Monday, Feb. 20-Wednesday, March 7, in Room 004 of the Wyoming Union.

A reception for the exhibition is scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 11a.m.-1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

"In 2011, young women, from 15-19 years old, living in Aarti Home in Kadapa, India, were invited to participate in a community-based advocacy project through the use of photovoice," says exhibition sponsor and UW Professor Kent Becker. "Photovoice invites participants to share their stories through narratives and photographs."

Project participants came to live in Aarti Home at different ages and as a result of different life tragedies. Each individual photovoice story offers a personal view of what life is like for girls and women living in rural India.

The complete project can be viewed at http://www.photovoicewyoming.com.
