Gaelic singer and instrumentalist Julie Fowlis will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts as part of the UW Cultural call concert series.

Award-winning Gaelic singer and instrumentalist Julie Fowlis continues the University of Wyoming Cultural Programs fall concert series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $24 for the public and $20 for UW students. For tickets and information, call (307) 766-6666 or visit the Wyoming Union or Performing Arts Center box offices.

Vocalist for Disney’s Pixar movie “Brave,” Fowlis also plays oboe, tin whistle and bagpipes. She has won Gaelic Singer of the Year, Album of the Year twice at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

“Her greatest honor, however, is having been appointed 'Tosgaire na Gàaidhlig' (Scottish Gaelic Ambassador) by the Scottish Parliament, which never had previously bestowed that honor, in part, because of difficulty with the spelling,” says UW Cultural Programs Director Cedric Reverand.

“You’d have to have a cold heart, indeed, not to be touched by this music,” said Phil Selway, musician best known as drummer for the band Radiohead.

For more information about the program, call (307) 766-5139 or email www.uwyo.edu/finearts/.
