Women’s Leadership Conference Scheduled Nov. 8-9 at UW

November 1, 2013 — “Find the Warrior Within” is the theme of this year’s Women’s Leadership Conference from 4-10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, through 7:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at the University of Wyoming Union Ballroom.

The keynote speaker is Erin Foley, a communication and gender studies specialist, who will discuss “The Fearless Female and the Freedom to be Happy” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. She has worked with college students for more than 10 years; her passion is in discovering and implementing daily practices that build strong, happy lives.

Foley studied communication for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees, and received her doctoral degree in organizational communication and gender studies. She is an assistant communication professor at State University of New York at Oneonta.

During her UW discussion, Foley will encourage women to cultivate happiness and motivate them to “become the fearless females they were born to be.”

The conference will include a dinner, yoga class and workshops such as women in diversity, women veterans, feminism and finances.

The diversity and backgrounds represented by the women of the UW Women’s Leadership Conference planning committee provided workshops focusing on the topics about which each woman is passionate, and important issues gaining popularity in the region.

To pre-register for the conference, visit the website at http://www.uwyo.edu/slce/wlc.html. A donation of $10 is recommended to cover the cost of food, and to secure a spot for the conference.

Sponsors for the event are the UW SLCE office; UW Police Department; UW Colleges of Agriculture and Applied Science, Arts and Sciences, and Health Sciences; Office of Student Affairs; UW Women's Center; Student Educational Opportunity; Multicultural Affairs; UW Departments of Geology and Geophysics, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; University Store; Poppy's; and Shanna Dahl/Mary Kay.
