Nancy Marlatt’s series of photographs of her autistic son are featured in the solo exhibition, “Autism through the Lens of a Mother,” showing through April 11 in the University of Wyoming Visual Arts Building “That” gallery. A reception for the exhibition is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 4.
Through a series of photographs, Marlatt says she aims to visually represent autism as lived by her 5-year-old son. Through moments captured over the course of a year, she strives to portray the impact of autism on family relations as well as her son’s unique ability to connect to the world around him.
This exhibition coincides with World Autism Awareness Month. April 2 has unanimously been declared World Autism Awareness Day by the United Nations General Assembly. To aid in autism awareness efforts, Marlatt’s exhibition will include complimentary puzzle clips to wear throughout April.
