‘Real Women, Real Bodies’ Exhibition Opens in UW Gallery 234

August 28, 2014

“Real Women, Real Bodies” is the first exhibition of the fall semester opening Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Gallery 234, located on the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union. It runs through Thursday, Sept. 11.

A reception is scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 5-7 p.m. in Gallery 234. Refreshments will be provided, and the public is invited to the event.

Real Women, Real Bodies is a recognized student organization on campus headed by club President Sydney Stein. The organization aims to confront the modern perceptions of beauty, promote healthy body image and increase self-esteem.

This message is conveyed through 22 black and white photographs depicting the silhouettes of nude women. The women represent an array of body types, all artfully photographed in graceful poses to accent each woman’s individual beauty.

Stein says the photographs, in poster format, “Allow the community to see that bodies are beautiful, no matter the size, shape or length. Each poster is different from the next, and we hope to highlight these differences through our campaign with your help.”
