A conference that encourages young leaders to find their voices is scheduled Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, at the University of Wyoming.

The Women’s Leadership Conference, titled “Authenticity: Come as You Are,” will be in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. UW’s Office of SLCE (Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement) sponsors the event.

“It is my hope that attendees will be inspired to live authentically,” says Emily De Wett, the student chair for the conference.

The conference is held each year to develop leadership skills and celebrate successful women, De Wett adds, but all genders are welcome to attend. About 120 participants are expected to attend. Registration is free, but participants are requested to register by visiting the website at www.uwyo.edu/union/slce/womens-leadership/.

The program begins at 5 p.m. Nov. 7 with dinner, entertainment and a keynote presentation from Deanna Zandt, an accomplished speaker, author and media consultant.

Zandt is the co-founder of Lux Digital, a contributing writer for Forbes.com and a consultant for many organizations. She works with groups to create and implement effective Web strategies toward organizational goals of civic and cultural engagement, and uses her background in linguistics, advertising, telecommunications and finance to complement her technical expertise.

“I believe being authentic strengthens how one leads. Attendees hopefully leave with new or improved leadership skills,” Zandt says.

The conference resumes Saturday, Nov. 8, at 8 a.m. with breakfast, followed by nine break-out sessions. The workshops cover topics ranging from yoga to women in the workforce to self-esteem. Participants have an opportunity to attend three workshops, each lasting 50 minutes.

“I think we all learned something from the national Conference for College Women Student Leaders this summer, and we found it extremely valuable to bring back those experiences to UW,” De Wett says of this year’s conference theme.
