An exhibition titled “Peripheries” is on display through Thursday, March 5, in Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union.
The show consists of prints by artist Ashley Quick and photographs by artist Holly Wood. A reception for the two artists is Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in Gallery 234. The free public event is sponsored by UW Visual and Cultural Arts.
Both UW graduates, Wood and Quick work in the UW Department of Art. Quick assists Professor Mark Ritchie in the printmaking studio and Wood assists Diana Baumbach, assistant professor, in the foundations section.
Quick’s delicate, collaged and symbolic relief prints contrast with Wood’s vibrant, active and representative photographs. The exhibitors have separated the gallery into two mini-shows. Both explore universal issues of gender, identity, religion and the juxtaposition of modern imagery with historic processes. The two artists explore traditionally “gendered” mediums, such as embroidery and textiles.
