UW College of Business Offers Two New MBA Programs

February 18, 2015

Two new master’s of business administration degree paths for students seeking a distinctive, hands-on graduate experience will be offered beginning in the 2015 fall semester through the University of Wyoming College of Business.

The two additional programs are a full-time International MBA and an Online Energy Concentration MBA. They have been added to the UW MBA program’s current offerings, providing “unique opportunities for prospective and current business leaders to prepare themselves for the demands of today’s global business environment,” says Steve Farkas, UW MBA program director.

Both programs are accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, an accreditation achieved by less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide.

Potential MBA candidates are admitted on a rolling basis until June 30, unless classes are filled before the deadline, Farkas says.

“With an experienced faculty of business leaders and entrepreneurs, students in the MBA programs will engage in real-world problems and have access to experiences that will fully prepare them for the challenges they will face in an ever-changing business world,” he adds.

Responding to a growing need for business leaders attuned to the ebb and flow of international markets, this new degree path prepares students to compete and succeed at a global level. Students will have the opportunity to earn dual MBA degrees from UW and its partner school, Pforzheim University in Germany.

“The new dual degree is a direct reflection of the ongoing collaborative efforts between the two universities,” Farkas says. “We are pleased to offer University of Wyoming MBA students the opportunity to broaden their global business education in addition to welcoming Pforzheim MBA students to participate in our Energy MBA program. It’s a great win-win for the students, and an added area of distinction for both programs.”

After successfully completing their first year at UW, students will travel to Germany and spend their second year enrolled in international business courses at Pforzheim University.

“With students from more than 10-12 countries from all over the world, cross-cultural learning and networking starts directly in classrooms in our Pforzheim MBA,” says Pforzheim MBA Program Director and Professor Harald Strotmann.

Students have the opportunity to focus their interests and choose electives from the fields of consulting, marketing and European perspectives, in addition to three mandatory courses. Select Pforzheim MBA students also will have the opportunity to participate in the exchange program and pursue UW’s on-campus Energy Management MBA track.

Designed for busy energy professionals, the cohort-based Online Energy Concentration MBA program is designed for students seeking to advance their careers through practical professional development.

In addition to their general MBA foundation coursework, students will take three energy-focused courses covering a variety of industry relevant topics, ranging from energy project risk and evaluation to energy accounting and supply chain management.

Students interested in the new MBA programs can contact the UW MBA Programs office at (307) 766-2449 or mba@uwyo.edu.
