Defense attorney Dean Strang, known from the popular Netflix documentary “Making a Murderer,” will speak Friday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

An online presale for tickets will be offered beginning Monday, March 14. Tickets cost $10 for students with valid UW student IDs and $20 for the public. To purchase presale tickets, go to www.uwyo.edu/finearts and use the promo code “Spring Break.”

Following spring break, student tickets will be available beginning Monday, March 21. Public tickets go on sale Monday, March 28. Tickets can be purchased at the Wyoming Union information desk, the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office or online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Strang, from Madison, Wis., is best known for his appearances on “Making a Murderer,” representing convicted criminal Steven Avery.

Avery was wrongly convicted of first-degree sexual assault in 1985. After serving 18 years in prison, he was exonerated, with help from the Wisconsin Innocence Project, when improved DNA testing of evidence indicated that another man had committed the sexual assault.

In 2007, Avery was convicted for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. Strang was a defense attorney in the Halbach trial. Avery is currently serving a life sentence.

During his UW talk, Strang will participate in a moderated discussion regarding systemic failures of the criminal justice system, including broader repercussions of the Avery case.

In addition to his appearances throughout the country, Strang is an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School, the University of Wisconsin Law School and the University of Wisconsin’s Division of Continuing Studies.

UW Concerts and Convocations, a Campus Activities Center program, sponsors the event.
