Nominations are now being accepted for the second annual Own It! Awards for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the University of Wyoming. The deadline is March 24.
Winners who have made contributions to the STEM fields will be honored during the Own It! Awards ceremony Tuesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. in the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility atrium.
Researchers are nominated for their outstanding scientific and scholarly achievements. Many will receive awards in categories for students, staff and faculty members and entrepreneurs. Nominations for the awards come directly from persons on campus working with the nominees.
Awards nomination criteria are developed by Wyoming EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) and the Women in Math, Science and Engineering recognized student organization. Nominations are for women who exemplify the following:
-- Students, staff and faculty members and entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions to their fields of research in the last 18 months.
-- Demonstrate aptitude and scholarly success.
-- Demonstrate service, leadership and/or mentoring on the UW campus.
Nominations can be made for any of the following categories:
-- Undergraduate student.
-- Graduate student.
-- Faculty: early career.
-- Faculty: tenure track.
-- Entrepreneurship: women who have used their experiences to develop marketable products, ideas or knowledge on or off campus.
-- Nontraditional women: women who have taken time out of their careers and come back to academics as students or faculty members and received recognition.
In addition, the National Center for Women in Information Technology will honor four high school students with its Award for Aspirations in Computing.
