Portfolio Manager, Finance Lecturer to Meet with UW MBA Students Friday

February 1, 2018

A portfolio manager and chairman of the Real Assets Investment Strategy at Tocqueville Asset Management, and a finance lecturer at the University of Wyoming will speak with UW Master of Business Administration (MBA) students Friday, Feb. 2.

Philip Treick will offer expertise gained from firsthand experience in the financial services industry as part of the MBA Program’s Executive Speaker Series. He has an extensive professional background that includes portfolio management, energy finance (securities, hedging and trading) and financial analysis.

As portfolio manager and chairman at Tocqueville Asset Management, a $12 billion wealth manager headquartered in New York City, he assists clients in preserving and growing their wealth, providing stewardship and experience necessary to meet today’s challenges, and preparing for challenges facing future generations. His career began in 1987 as a financial analyst in the Public Finance Department at Raymond James. Following that, he worked as a generalist for Transamerica Corp., where he analyzed and invested in sectors such as software, insurance, media and entertainment, and various technology sectors.

Treick was awarded a Lipper Certificate for the top-performing Small Capitalization Mutual Fund in 1998. He also formed a partnership to manage TCW’s (Trust Company of the West’s) founder’s assets as well as launching a long/short Tangible Asset Partnership to capitalize on hard asset investments in global public equities.

Additionally, Treick instructs two undergraduate portfolio management courses in which students gain real-world experience managing capital of $2 million. He also instructs an energy finance course to second-year energy track MBA students.

The MBA Program’s Executive Speaker Series this spring allows UW MBA students the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions and receive real-world learning experiences from a group of diverse industry leaders, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, financial service representatives and sports industry executives.

The UW MBA Program is accepting applications for the 2018 fall semester and will admit qualified students on a rolling basis until the cohort group is filled or June 30, whichever comes first, says Tanner Parmely, MBA Program coordinator.
