Campus Construction Update for July 22

(Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 22-28 at the University of Wyoming:

Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown began Monday, July 16, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will remain on-site until Aug. 20.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2018) -- Construction on a shelter to cover the condensate tank at the CEP will commence Aug. 21. Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; July 2018) -- Within the existing facility, the interior punch list is underway. All access to and egress from the Rochelle Athletics Center will be limited to the south entry doors. Construction of the north entry is underway. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

American Heritage Center (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed for repairs starting July 9-20. Please use the Visual Arts Building parking lot. Visitor parking also will be located in the Visual Arts Building parking lot.

Physical Sciences Building (MSI; May 29-Aug. 20) -- The area between the Physical Sciences and Health Sciences buildings will be closed for storm sewer work. Please be cautious around equipment and crews. See attached map.

Classroom Building, Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (MSI) -- The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building between Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences will be closed for a month due to the storm sewer renovations. See attached map.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Knife River; August 2018) -- The south parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

Crane Parking Lot (Knife River; August 2018) -- The east parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

Health Sciences Building, South Wing, Fourth Floor, WWAMI Classroom (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- Work on this phase of the project has begun with work primarily in Rooms 457, 459 and 460 (south wing, fourth floor). Demolition work is scheduled to occur through early August, with temporary impacts to additional spaces on the third and fourth floors.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Law (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The road between the parking lots of the College of Law and the east side of Fine Arts will be closed for underground utility work the weeks of July 16 and July 23. Please be cautious in this area. See attached map.

Energy Innovation Center (EIC), Earth Sciences Building (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The sidewalk area around the loading dock of EIC, Earth Sciences and half of the street will be closed for underground utility work during the weeks of July 16 and July 23. Please use caution in these areas. See attached map.

Health Sciences/Pharmacy Building (Big Horn Roofing) -- Crews will be reroofing sections of the roof. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Old Main (UW Operations; August 2018) -- Remodeling of Suite 318 of Old Main is underway. Task items include wall removal and repair, painting, carpeting, electrical routing, moving and cleaning. The work will continue until Aug. 29. The contractor will establish a HEPA-equipped negative pressure enclosure at the entrance of the suite in an effort to mitigate dust and odor dispersion to other locations of Old Main during construction. There will be heavy foot traffic along the main stairwell from ground level to the third floor. A Conex (storage container) for furniture storage will be staged at the northeast corner of the building, near the dumpsters for the facility. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Science Initiative Building (Site clearing and demolition contractor Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; summer/fall 2018) -- Franchise utility disconnects and relocations are in progress and will conclude by the end of July. Asbestos abatement in multiple buildings is in progress. The parking lot at 10th and Lewis streets is permanently closed. The site will be fenced and secured the week of July 23. Please do not park in any of the residential areas or parking lots. Tree removal, water service disconnects and select demolition activities will start in August. Please observe all construction signs, site fencing, overhead hazards and construction traffic.

Education Annex (July 10-17) -- Furniture and two vending machines may be in the hallways on the second floor while Rooms 223, 225, 227 and 229 are being re-carpeted. Please be cautious in the area. Room 223 (vending room) is missing a few tiles. They have been ordered and will be installed next week. The Pepsi vending machine is still in the hall, but should be moved into Room 223 this week.

Wildcatter Re-carpeting (Commercial Flooring) -- The Wildcatter is having the carpet redone starting this week. A dumpster is located in the stadium parking lot, and one elevator at a time will be out of public use. Please use caution, and be aware of active renovation zones.

Union Day Lot (Simon Contractors, August 2018) -- The day lot will be closed for minor repairs and maintenance. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Engineering (UW Electricians; August 2018) -- Recommissioning of L30 No. 2 has begun. Work will continue through mid-August. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Biological Sciences Building (UW Operations) -- The welding and plumbing crews will be working on installing new steam control valves in the basement mechanical room. Work will last several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

The following project is complete:

Knight Hall (Big Huhnks Excavation; May 22-July 13) -- Replacement of the sod from the sewer repair is complete.
