The University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) is offering the chance to win a 14-inch-high “Talk About Your Cowboy” bronze statue by D. Michael Thomas. The statue is valued at $3,500.

Raffle tickets may be purchased online at http://uw.uwyo.edu/raffle21 beginning today (Monday) through Friday, April 16, at noon. Tickets are one for $20, three for $50 or seven for $100.

The winning raffle ticket for the “Talk About Your Cowboy” statue will be drawn Friday, April 16. Nine $50 University Store gift cards also will be drawn. The winners will be notified through the contact information listed on their tickets. They will receive the statue or gift cards via mail within 30 days of the raffle drawing.

Traditionally, the raffle drawing is held at the annual spring UWAA scholarship reception and auction presented by Wyo4News.com but, due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, an in-person gathering has been postponed until April 2022.

A portion of the proceeds from the raffle ticket sales will help fund the UWAA scholarship program.

The UWAA provides scholarships to Wyoming students, out-of-state students, and undergraduate and graduate students. Within these scholarships, awards have been added to support Wyoming community college transfer students, nontraditional students, U.S. veterans, and multicultural and Native American students. Recipients are selected based on criteria including academic excellence, leadership, extracurricular activities and an essay on why they wish to attend UW.

Since its inception in 1906, the UWAA scholarship program has grown steadily through its coordination of the Scholarship Club, endowed scholarships and the UW license plate program. Each academic year, about $232,000 is disbursed to nearly 130 students, with awards ranging from one to four years.

“The support that our alumni and friends have shown for our scholarship program over the years has been remarkable,” says UWAA Executive Director Keener Fry. “We are helping UW students build a bright future toward graduation, their careers and being a Cowboy for life.”
