UW Libraries Signs Open Access Publishing Agreement With Cambridge University Press

Research published by corresponding authors based at the University of Wyoming will be made open access at no additional cost, thanks to a new partnership between UW Libraries and Cambridge University Press (CUP).

Through the read-and-publish agreement, UW authors have the opportunity to publish open access (OA) in CUP hybrid and gold journals at no additional cost to themselves or the university. The agreement was made with the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, of which UW Libraries is a participating institution, to support OA publishing. The agreement with CUP is effective immediately.

The agreement covers the article processing charges for affiliated corresponding authors whose research articles are accepted for publication in CUP hybrid and gold journals during the three-year agreement term.

Additionally, the agreement will sustain access to the CUP complete journals package for UW faculty, students and staff on a multiyear basis.

The agreement secures new open publishing benefits for UW faculty at sustainable cost. For CUP, the agreement accelerates its own transition to being a majority open journals publisher. More broadly, the agreement takes a positive step toward removing barriers to knowledge, allowing anyone, anywhere, to access UW research published OA, regardless of an individual’s or institution’s ability to pay subscription costs.

“We are pleased to provide an opportunity for faculty to publish open access and support CUP in its transition to affordable open access,” says Deborah McCarthy, UW Libraries assistant dean of resource discovery and management. “This agreement joins existing UW Libraries’ efforts to support OA, journal hosting and open educational resources through our Digital Scholarship Center. Supporting OA aligns with UW Libraries values and President Seidel’s strategic pillars to position UW in its goal of building a best-in-class 21st century land-grant institution.”

For more information about the agreement, call Chealsye Bowley at 766-6860 or email cbowley@uwyo.edu. For more information about OA at UW, visit https://uwyo.libguides.com/oa.
