The University of Wyoming Art Museum will feature the 47th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition during a reception Friday, Feb. 25.

The free event will celebrate the exhibitions for the spring semester. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. and will include a student awards ceremony. A number of purchase and scholarship awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m.

The 47th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition is open to any student enrolled at UW during the current academic year. This includes any in-state student enrolled through UW distance courses.

The student exhibition is juried each year by an out-of-state art professional. This year’s exhibition was selected by Natalia Ángeles Vieyra, Maher Curatorial Fellow of American Art at the Harvard Art Museums, who reviewed over 150 submissions.

“Many of the artists looked to the natural landscape of Wyoming, incorporating its native flora and fauna into works of remarkable poignancy,” Vieyra says. “Through their eyes, we find strength in nature’s resilience, and we are likewise reminded of its fragility and our role in its preservation.”

The 47th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition will be on view through May 14.

Other spring semester exhibitions are:

-- “Contemporary in Black + White: Selections from the UW Art Museum Collection” presents contemporary works that are brought together by the common theme of color or lack thereof. The exhibition is on view through June 4.

-- The Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery presents four installations -- each specific to a UW course taught during the spring semester. Faculty members from a range of academic disciplines select artwork from the museum’s permanent collection to support the content and learning goals of their respective classes. The installations are on view through May 14.
