The University of Wyoming Department of Music will feature guest artist Tom Hooten, one of the world’s prominent classical trumpeters, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Hooten, the principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will be joined by Rebecca Wilt, a nationally and internationally recognized virtuoso collaborative pianist. Wilt has worked with many of the world’s most prominent wind instrument performers and several of the country’s foremost vocalists. She has performed in many of the world’s renowned venues in North America, Europe and Asia.

Tickets are $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. UW students will still need to reserve tickets. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Hooten began his career in 2000 with “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, often as a featured soloist. He later joined the Indianapolis Symphony as assistant principal trumpet in 2004; the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as principal trumpet in 2006; and, in 2012, he began his current position with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In 2011, he released his first solo album, “Trumpet Call.” Hooten is an active soloist who has appeared with numerous orchestras and bands, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and the U.S. Air Force Band.

As an orchestral and chamber musician, Hooten has performed with ensembles such as the Baltimore Symphony, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Harrisburg Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra and at the Grand Teton Music Festival.

He has performed on numerous recordings with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the National Brass Ensemble.
