Winter Issue of UWyo Magazine Highlights New Initiatives

The winter issue of UWyo Magazine -- the flagship publication of the University of Wyoming -- highlights new initiatives helping UW become a best-in-class, 21st century land-grant university true to its Wyoming roots.

Reaching beyond the university, this issue includes interviews with Gov. Mark Gordon, community college presidents and the Wyoming Community College Commission.

Features include:

-- The Wyoming Innovation Partnership, a collaboration among UW and the state’s community colleges -- endorsed by the governor -- to develop innovative solutions that will support and enhance Wyoming’s economy and workforce.

-- The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a center led by UW and enabled through the efforts of the Wyoming Innovation Partnership that will serve as the hub for entrepreneurship education and practice.

-- The Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Center, designed to provide related real-world experiences for students; courses, training and certificates via distance technologies to working professionals; outreach services such as market analyses and business incubation; and applied research in collaboration with industry.

-- The new School of Computing, which will provide access to world-class infrastructure and workforce training in computing and data that are critical for Wyoming citizens and for UW’s students.

-- Student success efforts, including the first-ever Saddle Up college preparation camp for freshmen and the new Navigate software program.

“While I couldn’t be more optimistic about where these changes will take us, we all recognize that, in many respects, our work is just beginning,” says UW President Ed Seidel. “We have created a strong framework to move the university forward, and now we must execute the plans. We’ll only be successful through the combined efforts of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, elected leaders, private and public partners, and other supporters.”

In addition to the new initiatives, the winter issue allows readers to step inside new statewide mobile makerspaces, hear how Cowboys football legacy player Chad Muma is mentoring the next generation, meet four new deans and directors, and much more.

“This is an exciting time for Wyoming’s university, and we’re delighted to highlight many of the reasons for that excitement in this issue of the magazine,” says Chad Baldwin, associate vice president for marketing and communications. “Those who want to learn more about President Seidel’s initiatives and our new academic leaders will find just about all they need to know, and there is plenty of other material for supporters of UW to enjoy.”

UWyo Magazine is produced three times a year. The upcoming spring issue will be student focused, while the fall issue will focus on animals and wildlife.
