The University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance will present the Philadelphia-based Koresh Dance Company at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, on the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts main stage.

The performance will feature the company’s 2019 work titled “La Danse,” which combines multiple interpretations of Matisse’s three permutations of his titular painting of the same name. “La Danse” is set to an original musical composition by John Levis and poetry by Karl Mullen.

The company also will be in residency during the week to teach classes and set repertory to UW dancers, who will perform with the company in the evening performance.

Tickets are $16 for the public; $13 for senior citizens; and $8 for students.. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

The Koresh Dance Company is known for its engaging performances and technically superb dancers. The company performs a vast repertoire of Ronen “Roni” Koresh’s work that ranges from explosive and passionate to intimate and restrained, as well as work by distinguished guest choreographers, including Robert Battle, Donald Byrd, Itzik Galili, Ohad Naharin and Paul Norton.

“We are excited to welcome Koresh Dance Company to the University of Wyoming,” says Margaret Wilson, a professor and UW Department of Theatre and Dance chair. “Roni Koresh has previously been a faculty member at the Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival, bringing his unique blend of contemporary dance and jazz.”

Koresh, an Israeli-born choreographer and artistic director, is a teacher and collaborator whose work is a unique blend of ballet, modern and jazz. He formed the Koresh Dance Company in 1991 and quickly established an international reputation for highly technical and emotionally charged work.

“La Danse” is funded by the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts’ “Made in Wickenburg” Artist Residency Program.
