State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The public forums of the three UW presidential finalists were covered by the Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) last week in Casper: Greg Bowman, Edward Seidel and Daniel White. The Laramie Boomerang also published an article on the candidates.

The Dallas Morning News featured UW Associate Professor Ellen Currano, creator of “The Bearded Lady Project,” for an article, titled “If women scientists wore fake facial hair, would men take them more seriously?”

UW Associate Professor Myrna Miller, at the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory, told Wyoming Public Media that the coronavirus strains that affect cattle and other farm animals are not the ones raising fears of a global pandemic.

Science Daily published UW’s release noting UW researchers Bart Geerts and Jeff French’s involvement in a cloud-seeding study. The researchers contributed to a paper that demonstrated, for the first time, direct observation of cloud seeding using radar and gauges to quantify the snowfall. The Denver Post, National Science Foundation, Denver’s 9News and Colorado Public Radio published similar articles.

UW economist Rob Godby was among experts discussing with The CS-T Wyoming’s potential acquisition of 1 million acres of land and 4 million acres of mineral rights, which has prompted many questions.

The CS-T and The Houston Chronicle reported that U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Neil M. Gorsuch will visit UW Sept. 16-17 in honor of the College of Law’s 100th anniversary. County 10 published UW’s release on Gorsuch’s UW visit.

UW Extension’s “Master Money Manager Coach” program received the Creative Money Smart for Adults User of the Year Award from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., according to NRI News. UW’s program helps community organizations across Wyoming enhance the money management skills of their clientele.

The Omaha World-Herald interviewed UW economist Charles Mason about the Keystone XL pipeline, which is facing construction delays caused by weak oil demand and cheap alternative sources.

UW Assistant Professor Kenneth Zheng discussed with the Billings Gazette how the coronavirus outbreak would affect Chinese tourists to Yellowstone National Park this summer. The Salt Lake Tribune and The Montana Standard republished the article.

The Boomerang reported that the Wyoming House voted last week to budget $50 million of state funds for construction projects at UW. Earlier, the Senate included only $500,000 for UW construction. Voting on the funding will be this week.

Oil City News published UW’s release announcing that four local entrepreneurs, with a focus on science business projects, will compete in the Microbial Ecology Collaborative Startup Launchpad. They will pitch their businesses to judges later this month at the Wyoming Technology Business Center.

The deadline to submit a proposal for the Wind River Startup Challenge has been extended to later this month. Oil City News published UW’s release on the program.

Laramie Live published UW’s release noting that 15 UW seniors are working on three outdoor recreation-based projects this semester in Fremont County as part of a new degree program in outdoor recreation and tourism management.

UW psychology Professor Cynthia Hartung recently received a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She and others will examine the development of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, according to a UW release published by Laramie Live. K2 Radio also published the release.
