State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Forbes published a feature on UW’s Wyoming Infrared Observatory and its 2.3-meter telescope that remains one of the northernmost optical observatories in the Northern Hemisphere. UW professors Danny Dale and Mike Brotherton were interviewed for the feature piece.

Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, told WyoFile that the university would take a “wait-and-see” approach on how Wyoming responds to a federal government vaccine mandate for certain employees.

The Gillette News Record noted that UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources helped the Wyoming Game and Fish Department with a study to help manage a declining Upper Powder River mule deer herd near Kaycee and to help understand the biggest problems facing the herd.

UW Professor Tim Considine’s report on job losses was cited in Casper Star-Tribune and WyoFile articles focusing on Gov. Mark Gordon signing a temporary emergency suspension order that allows Unit 2 of the Jim Bridger Power Plant to continue operating for at least four months, averting a shutdown of the unit this week.

Forbes noted that UW experts are lending their wild plant expertise for a Jackson Hole businesswoman’s venture into foraging for the right wild plants in the valley for her moisturizing line of care products.

Ana-Clara Bobadilla, an assistant professor in the UW School of Pharmacy, spoke with Wyoming Public Radio about the university’s partnership with a company -- CaaMTech, which is creating a library of pure compounds from psychedelic mushrooms -- on the possible medical benefits of the compounds. Outdoor Life interviewed UW Associate Professor Kevin Monteith for an article that focused on the history and the future of trophy big-game hunting in North America.

UW’s School of Energy Resources received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to assess the economic impacts of fossil energy production in Wyoming and evaluate opportunities and research needs to deploy clean hydrogen technologies. SweetwaterNow published UW’s announcement.

The Laramie Reporter noted that the UW Board of Trustees recently passed an indoor mask mandate for the start of the spring semester alongside other measures aimed at stopping the COVID spread. Trustees also tabled an additional proposal to require vaccinations in medical clinics.

Tim Zhang, UW finance assistant professor, offered tips in a WalletHub question-and-answer format on loans for home improvement projects. Zhang discussed the pros and cons of this type of loan compared to other funding sources.

Sheridan Media and WyoToday Media published UW’s release noting that the new Saddle Up program -- initiated in the coming fall semester -- will help instill a sense of community and belonging from the beginning of a student’s university experience.

The Wyoming Energy Authority and UW’s School of Energy Resources recently presented an “Advanced Nuclear 101” webinar to provide expert information and to answer questions involving the proposed Natrium nuclear plant to be built near Kemmerer.
