Wyoming INBRE Community College-University of Wyoming Transition Fellowship Program

Application deadline has passed.

(online process; Instruction and links are provided below)

Through a grant from the National Institute for General Medical Sciences the Wyoming Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program has available fellowships for outstanding community college life science students transferring to the University of Wyoming who intend to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences. The fellowship will provide financial support for selected students to attend UW for up to 2 years and engage in INBRE supported research activities in addition to their degree coursework. Note that the second year of support is contingent on meeting the requirements detailed below and receipt of continuing funding from NIGMS for Wyoming INBRE. The fellowship amount is $2500 per semester for the fall and spring terms. Recipients of fellowships must transfer to UW and enroll for the fall 2016 term. During the first semester of attendance, INBRE Fellows will rotate through a series of laboratory experiences. In their second semester, in conjunction with a UW faculty member, they will select a laboratory program to work in for an extended time conducting independent mentored research. Depending on the project and student and faculty interest, the student may participate in additional laboratory assignments with approval of Wyoming INBRE. To maintain the fellowship, the student must comply with the following requirements:

  • work ~10 hours/week in their assigned laboratory;
  • maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum B (3.0) grade point average;
  • attend specified INBRE events;
  • present an oral or poster presentation each year of the fellowship at the Wyoming INBRE  Conference and Wyoming Undergraduate Research Day at the end of spring term.

Applicants must have participated in INBRE-supported activities on their community college campus and should be entering the junior year of their undergraduate studies at the time they enroll at UW.
