Rural Health Care Economics

Faculty Lead(s): Anders Van Sandt

Description: Dr. Anders Van Sandt is recruiting an MS student to join the Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Van Sandt recently received a four-year USDA grant to explore how rural health access influences rural health outcomes.

The project goal is to develop research articles and an Extension program aimed at improving domestic healthcare access and outcomes in rural places. To support this grant, the student will work on topics related to rural healthcare access, healthcare industry consolidation, and/or rural health outcomes depending on the student’s interest.

While the actual grant activities will use restricted-access data, the research team has collected a wealth of public data related to health access, outcomes, and industry trends for the student to explore and analyze.
