The UW Animal Science Department makes it a priority to connect its students with possible career opportunities and experiences. Our students participate in a variety of internships that span across the animal science industry and throughout the country. Take a look at these testimonial videos produced by students who recently completed internships in their fields of study!
As an intern with 307 Meats in Laramie, Connor worked on the fab floor, harvesting and cutting meat and helping deliver the final product for consumption. Connor also works at the UW Meat Lab. Both experiences have helped Connor to improve his skills and enhanced his ability to learn more about the meat butchering process.
Calibrating equipment and unloading feed ingredients are just a few of the duties that kept Alex busy this summer in Milford, Utah. From the hands off internship style to the new experiences that came along with his learning he thoroughly enjoyed his time with Smithfield and says he "would highly reccomend this internship to a fellow student considering getting into animal nutrition."
As a NCBA Convention intern Katie worked hard to ensure all tasks were completed and the convention ran as smoothly as possible. From assisting with the trade show to getting the opportunity to meet other interns from across the country Katie says this was an experience she will surely never forget.
Whether it was processing rams for the Ram Test, trailing flocks to pasture or spending quality time with Lobo the guard dog Callie gained invaluable skills during her time as an intern with the Laramie Research and Extension Center.
Spending 10 weeks on a sow farm is exactly what Shelby's summer consisted of. Breeding and farrowing sows is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the skills she has gained.
Aside from the natural beauty of Big Timber, Montana Dylan kept himself busy this summer as an intern with county extension office. As an ag based community events such as the county fair were very important and some of the highlights of Dylan's time up north. Being out in the field and heading to the meat locker were all in a hard days work as an extension intern and Dylan would certainly recommend this experience to anyone.
