Becoming a member of the UW judging teams
We are so excited you want to become a member of the collegiate judging teams who
represent the University of Wyoming at a national level! This choice will benefit
you so greatly in the future, and we are excited you’ve chosen the coaches, alumni,
and Animal Science department at UW to support you in this endeavor.
The general path you will take to become a member of any of our teams is as follows:
First, you will need to enroll in an academic course to learn the basics for evaluation.
This will allow you the opportunity to build a strong foundation for your evaluation
skills before you begin competing at national contests. Information about the course
offerings for each judging team can be found by clicking on the below links.
After you complete an academic course, you become eligible for selection as a judger
at the University of Wyoming. As a judger, you will travel the country evaluating
livestock, meat, horses, and wool for practices and contests. Each judging team has
its own season that could last for a few short months up to an entire year. Again,
you’ll find more information about each team’s travel schedule at the below links.
Finally, after you’ve finished your season you become a UW judging team alumnus. This
is a very humbling honor and there is no doubt that you will be proud to have represented
the University of Wyoming at such a high level of competition. The Animal Science
department at UW supports its judging team alumni year in and year out. It is our
hope to carry your legacy into the future.
