Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Cultural Club

Welcome to our Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Cultural Club page! If you're looking to meet other students with similar interests, or you just want to learn more about culture, you've come to the right place!

The Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Cultural Club is a group of students interested in the region's culture, tradition and history. It is an opportunity for students to come together to share in this interest, learn about the MENA region and experience a new culture. If you are originally from the MENA region, it is the chance to learn about countries different from your own, as well as share and educate people about your country's culture.

MENA Advocacy Initiative

The MENA Club is working on an initiative to highlight the Palestinian voices and stories during these troubling times. One of the club's most active members, Abdalrahim Abu Warda, who is from Gaza, is here at the University of Wyoming as a Fulbright graduate student. The club urges our Wyoming representatives to meet Abdalrahim and hear his story. Recently Montana House Representative Ryan Zinke introduced bill H.R. 621. This bill wishes to restrict entry into the U.S. for holders of travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority. We want to bring awareness to this bill and have our representatives refuse to support or abstain this harmful legislation.

The club has drafted an advocacy letter that we will send to our representatives but we want to demonstrate that this issue matters to many Wyoming constituents. We are looking to get more people to become signatories of our petition. Please read the letter below and fill out the form if you consent being noted as a signatory. Once we gather more signatures we will be sending out the letters.

Advocacy Letter Objectives:
  1. We want to show our representatives that there is a Palestinian here at the university that all of us (who are constituents in Wyoming) care deeply about
  2. Palestinians, like Israelis, deserve better and are real people with families
  3. Urge representatives not to support Montana bill 6211, which would harm the Palestinian people, specifically Abdalrahim

At this time we are not changing the language or structure of the letter. If you become a signatory you consent to the letter being sent in as it written now.

If you would rather send in your own letter to the Wyoming representatives we have provided a template that people can use and reference. You can also contribute to our initiative by calling the representatives directly and use a phone script that we have drafted.

Advocacy Letter: Sending letter to representatives. Become a signatory by filling out this form
