Student Organizations, Auctions, Art Markets, Iron Pour, Croquis

Throughout the year, Visual Art Student Organizations (RSOs) coordinate exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, art sales, and auctions. These events are open to all community members, and event proceeds go towards student development, purchasing art supplies, and help fund field trips and conference travel.

Sculpture students

The Iron Pour is an annual, all-day public event where recycled and donated materials are transformed into molten metal at 2,700 degrees, demonstrating how collaboration, teamwork, and leadership foster sustainable creativity and strengthen the community. The Ceramic Art Guild Silent Benefit Auction is an evening of delicious refreshments and features auctioning off one of a kind ceramic pieces crafted by students and faculty just in time for the holidays. Proceeds fund student travel to the annual National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts conference. A campus and community wide event, the fundraiser is scheduled early December, for details click here to see the flyer

The term "Croquis" is a French term meaning "sketch," often used to describe short quick drawings done from a live model. Croquis sessions are led by Student Art League students in and usually meet in Visual Arts Room 250.  The sessions allow for both long and short poses and offer students and community members a time outside of class to work from a live nude model. Department Events

At the start of each academic year, the Visual Arts Department hosts a Welcome Back Picnic for new and returning students to connect or reconnect with other students and faculty. The Picnic is a wonderful way for students to establish relationships with their peers and learn about student groups and other upcoming events in the Department of Visual Arts.

Every spring, the University of Wyoming Art Museum hosts the Annual Student Juried Exhibition to showcases work of Visual Arts students, but is open to the entire University of Wyoming student body. The jurors, chosen by the Art Museum, represent regional curators and museum/gallery directors, and honor artists numerous purchase awards and prizes, announced at the Event Opening.

At the close of each semester, the Department of Visual Arts hosts a dinner for graduating seniors.  This is a casual and entertaining get together to celebrate each student's achievement in the Department of Visual Arts and to wish them well in their future endeavors.

Every spring, the Department of Visual Arts hosts the Annual BFA Group Exhibition. This exhibition showcases the work of graduating students in the BFA in Studio Art and the BFA in Visual Communication Design. The reception for this exhibition coincides with our Graduating Senior Celebration.
