Teachers of students in grades pre-k through high school may schedule a field trip to UWAM during the school year. For the most comprehensive experience, including both time in the gallery and time in our studio, we recommend that groups visit for:
Our studio can accommodate up to 24 students, and we ask that groups larger than 24
be broken into two or more groups. Our team of educators can design unique experiences
to accommodate larger groups or those with special requests with at least three weeks'
notice. To schedule, please fill out a visit request here.
Email UWArtEd@uwyo.edu.
Art Explorers is our free, once-weekly program specifically for children aged 3-5 and their parents or caregivers. In Art Explorers, we briefly explore the gallery and identify fundamental elements of art such as line, shape, color, texture, and value, then head into the studio to make an art project aligned with our gallery exploration. We encourage our Art Explorers to engage in sensory material exploration, individual creative expression, and community building through repeat visits. Our sessions follow the UW semester schedule, please check our events calendar for more information.
Art Buffet is our free, monthly opportunity for families and learners of all ages to come together and focus on one exhibit or artist in the gallery, and create a work in our studio. For Art Buffet, our art-making is concept-based, and participants are encouraged to make meaning through their own interpretation of the artwork of the month. An array of supplies are provided. Art Buffet typically occurs the first Saturday of every month during the Fall and Spring semester. Please check our events calendar for more information.
Teen Open Art Studio Time (T.O.A.S.T.) is our free, once-weekly, program for students ages 13-17. During this informal learning experience, time is spent in the galleries and studio, with art-making rooted in media exploration or technical practice. Artists of all ability levels are encouraged to attend, no prior art-making experience is necessary. A detailed release and medical form are required for each participant prior to attending. Please email UWArtEd@uwyo.edu for more details. Our sessions follow the UW semester schedule, please check our events calendar for more information.
Art Connect is our free, after-school enrichment experience. This is our art and English language arts integrated learning experience for students in grades 3-5, sponsored by a partnership between Albany County School District No. 1 and UWAM. A healthy after-school snack is provided, and then activities are led by the Teaching Artist team and Master Teacher. Students engage in reading, writing, close looking, and interpretation of the artwork, as well as hands-on art making. Each ACSD1 elementary school is assigned a two-week session during the academic year. Contact your child’s art teacher or email UWArtEd@uwyo.com for more information.
Summer Art Camp (SAC). Each summer, UWAM offers week-long, half-day camps for a deeper, sustained enrichment experience. Students spend five days with the teaching team, exploring a new gallery each day, making work around a central theme, going on on-campus field trips to other campus entities such as the Planetarium or the Williams Botany Conservatory, and end the week with an art show and reception for friends and family. This program charges tuition to each student, but scholarships are available for families in need.
