Missed, a scaled down recreation of the gunshot mirror in Laramie's Buckhorn Bar, exemplifies Bill Feeney's interest in how a story or event is suggested through minimal visual information and explanation. His subjects are iconic images picked out of his childhood recollections growing up in Laramie and the dense visual information of Brooklyn, New York where he lives and works today.
Meticulous, architecturally accurate, scaled down representations of a snow fence (Drift), a buckboard wagon (As Good'a Place as Any), a five-story fire escape (Escape [Safety Green]), the revolving door entrance to Macy's (151 West 34th Street), and the curious corner door from Marcel Duchamp's Paris apartment (11 rue Larrey) evoke stories and histories that are familiar yet elusive. Represented by Cornell DeWitt Gallery and Mixed Greens in New York, this is Feeney's first museum exhibition.
