Sorcerer's Apprentice and Past Lives: Two Installations by Alexis Smith and Amy Gerstler

September 20 - November 22, 2003

Artist Alexis Smith and poet Amy Gerstler join forces on a new interpretation of two of their previous collaborative projects, Sorcerer's Apprentice and Past Lives.

Sorcerer's Apprentice, comprised of brooms from Smith's collection and text by Gerstler, is a meditation on the themes of witchcraft, domestic life, and other meanings of the word "sweep." Past Lives considers the collective history objects acquire over time and through use. The installation includes a variety of children's chairs, also from Smith's personal collection, and text written by Gerstler.
