Redefining The Multiple: 13 Japanese Printmakers features the work of Japanese artists whose formal training is in printmaking. Although each of the participating artists' personal work has transitioned over the years - and some is now more associated with other media - printmaking and the production of multiples remains at the core of their creative processes.
Artists in the exhibition are Junji Amano, Shunsuke Kano, Hideki Kumura, Kiochi Kiyono, Saori Miyake, Shoji Miyamoto, Arata Nojima, Nobuaki Onishi, Kuseki Ono, Naruki Oshima, Chiaki Shuji, Marie Yoshiki, and Toshinao Yoshioka. Four of the artists make three-dimensional objects and installations, two paint with printmaking tools and techniques, three use digital photography and technology, and the others utilize traditional and recognizable printmaking techniques.
Redefining the Multiple was curated by Heideki Kimura, Professor, Kyoto City University and Sam Yates, Director, Ewing Gallery of Art & Architecture, Univeristy of Tennesee, Knoxville.
