In Process: Behind the Scenes of the University of Wyoming Art Museum

    June 4 - August 31, 2018

Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery

    Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery Exhibition

In Process: Behind the Scenes of the University of Wyoming Art Museum is an experimental exhibition that showcases the inner workings of exhibition planning, design, development, and implementation. Over the course of 3 months, catch glimpses of the exhibition development process, as exhibitions are uninstalled, organized and installed.

The Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery exhibition will be replaced over time by a Museum Studies internship exhibition project developed in conjunction with the ‘For Freedoms’ super PAC and the ‘50 State Initiative.’ Museum Studies interns Jandey Shackelford and Cameron Green will be fully funded for their work in both collections management and exhibition development between the Spring and Fall semesters of 2018. Jandey Shackelford is currently undertaking a BA in Fine Arts with a Museum Studies minor while Cameron Green is a recent MA graduate of History. Both students will be receiving oversight by Chief Curator Nicole Crawford, Collections Manager Dara Lohnes-Davies, and Exhibitions Coordinator Kayle Avery.

The ‘For Freedoms’ super PAC was developed by artists Hank Willis Thomas and writer Eric Gottesman as they sought a means by which to promote the role art and artists play in the galvanization of society in the realm of politics and international affairs. The movement and organization were inspired by Norman Rockwell’s paintings of the Four Universal Freedoms, first outlined by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1941 – the freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear.

The ‘For Freedoms 50 State Initiative’ is a non-partisan series of concurrent exhibitions taking place across the country intended to encourage broad participation in the civic discourse about art, education, advertising, and politics.

    • Funded in part by the Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery Endowment
