Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
Next week we will host the Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation on Thursday, October 2, at 2:00 pm in the A&S Auditorium. We will celebrate A&S honors students for their academic achievements. It is an important time for A&S students, faculty, and staff to celebrate our students, and I ask that you join me in this opportunity to recognize them. Our A&S students are why we are here; let’s celebrate their achievements together.
On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the “Three Minute Thesis” competition hosted by UW’s School of Graduate Education. Two A&S students presented, and it was a pleasure to learn about their research. UW’s graduate students do terrific work, and these types of presentations can help launch their careers after their time at UW.
This is the Board of Trustees meeting week, and I joined the Executive Director of the Neltje Center, Beth Venn, for her presentation to the Board on the great projects occurring at the Neltje Center. It was a terrific opportunity to demonstrate to the Board, and everyone listening, the value the center brings for our students, faculty, community, and the state’s creative economy. If you want to learn more about the Neltje Center, or how you can participate, visit the website at uwyo.edu/as/neltje-center.
Last week, I travelled to Cody for the Rendezvous Royale, which is one of the largest gatherings for Western Art. During the trip, I was able to make deeper connections for the college to further establish student internships, collaborative workshops, and symposia. There are many connections for our college with groups in this area.
Finally, I was excited to learn that our own Michaela Doyle was selected as the “Employee of the Third Quarter for 2025!” Michaela is A&S’s marketing and communication specialist and does outstanding work. Congratulations Michaela!
Sincerely,
J. Scott Turpen
