At Hecate Energy, which is a Chicago-based renewable energy development company, Paul
oversees the company's business development team who are responsible for early-stage
project site identification and control, environmental permitting, transmission analysis
and community engagement for some 50,000 MW of solar, battery storage and wind energy
projects across the continental United States. Now totaling over 60 employees, Paul
was among the first hires at Hecate, when the company was launched in 2012.
Before joining Hecate, Paul was a Managing Director at Peoples Energy where he led
the development of multiple natural gas-fired combined cycle and simple cycle power
plants, including the 1,150 MW COB Energy Facility near Klamath Falls, Oregon, and
the 280 MW Valencia Energy Facility near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Both fully developed
projects were sold, with Valencia being built by Public Service Company of New Mexico
and COB sold to J Power.
Prior to Peoples, Paul was a principal at CornerStone Energy Advisors, which was the
financial and strategic advisor to Sithe Energies in their acquisition of the Boston
Edison generating portfolio in 1997 and the General Public Utilities generating portfolio
in 1998.
After graduating from UW, Paul started his professional career in 1996 at PriceWaterhouseCoopers'
utility practice in Chicago with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Paul and
his wife Karleen split time between Scottsdale, Arizona and Naperville, Illinois.
Paul holds a BSEE from the University of Illinois, an MSEE from New Mexico State University,
and a Ph.D. in regulatory economics and environmental and natural resource economics
from the University of Wyoming.
