At Hecate Energy, which is a Chicago-based energy development company, Paul recently transitioned from leading Hecate’s project development to now overseeing the company's business strategy with a particular focus on energy park development to serve large infrastructure load (e.g., data centers). Furthermore, Paul now manages strategic project development across generating technologies including utility scale thermal gas, solar, wind and battery storage. Now totaling over 60 employees, Paul was among the first hires at Hecate, when the company was founded in 2012.
Before joining Hecate, Paul was a Managing Director at Peoples Energy where he led the development of multiple natural gas-fired combined cycle and simple cycle power plants, including the 1,150 MW COB Energy Facility near Klamath Falls, Oregon, and the 280 MW Valencia Energy Facility near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to Peoples, Paul was a principal at CornerStone Energy Advisors, which was the financial and strategic advisor to Sithe Energies in their acquisition of the Boston Edison 660 MW generating portfolio in 1997 and the 1,600 MW General Public Utilities generating portfolio in 1998. While at CornerStone, Paul also managed the environmental compliance strategy for the development of the 1,400 MW Mystic 8 & 9 combined cycle gas plant in Evert, Massachusetts and the 700 MW Fremont Energy Center combined cycle gas plant in Fremont, Ohio.
After graduating from UW, Paul started his professional career in 1996 at PriceWaterhouseCoopers' utility practice in Chicago with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Paul and his wife Karleen split time between Scottsdale, Arizona and Naperville, Illinois.
Paul holds a BSEE from the University of Illinois, an MSEE from New Mexico State University, and a Ph.D. in regulatory economics and environmental and natural resource economics from the University of Wyoming.
