Undergraduate Engineering Scholars Program

As part of the University of Wyoming Tier-1 Initiative, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences will select a limited number of top high school graduating seniors to enter the highly competitive Undergraduate Engineering Scholars Program.

We are seeking outstanding students interested in being mentored in research and scholarship. These students will be offered an opportunity to join active research teams conducting world-class research. Recipients are evaluated on their academic excellence, including high school GPA, test scores and curriculum rigor. The scholarship will provide $6,000 of annual funding to help cover the cost of tuition, room and board and associated fees. The award is renewable for an additional three years for a total scholarship of $24,000. Additional semesters of scholarship may be granted on a case-by-case basis (e.g. student participating in study-abroad program). In the first two years of the program, a total of 48 scholarships were awarded annually. The total number of annual scholarship awards could increase.

Awardees will be invited to participate in the Engineering Undergraduate Research Scholars Program, in which they will be given access to opportunities for undergraduate research, one-on-one work with professors and industrial posts.

Application Requirements and Deadlines

Priority consideration for the scholarship is given to those who have submitted a complete admissions package (application, application fee, official transcripts and ACT/SAT test scores) which must be received by the UW Admissions Office on or before Dec. 1. Students selected to receive the scholarship must confirm their enrollment at UW by May 1.

To be considered for the scholarship, the UW Admissions Office must have the following on or before November 1:

  • Application for admission and admission application fee
  • The student must have a declared undergraduate major within the College of Engineering and Applied Science or be on ENUN (engineering undecided) status
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Official ACT/SAT test scores
