Students, recognize the signs of a scam job
Although we strive to approve legitimate opportunity only, scammers get more sophisticated;
to be a savvy job hunter, recognize these scam tactics and think twice before giving
away personal information.
- If an employer asks you to provide them with personal information as part of the application
process (including your Social Security number, bank account info, credit card info,
etc.)
- If an employer asks you to pay them in order to be considered for the position
- If an employer says that they will send you a check to deposit and then have you wire
money back to them
- If an employer with a well-known name is using an email address that is not at the
official company’s web domain (check the address closely as sometimes the numbers/digests
are just one-off from normal)
- If it seems too good to be true (i.e. the pay is $70/hr)
- If it seems shady
