Architectural Engineering

Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management

Architectural engineering students learn about building systems in preparation to become a Professional Engineer in the building industry. At UW, the Architectural Engineering program has a strong reputation for strength in Building Information Modeling, which refers to the 3D computer modeling of building systems and simulating building performance. We have faculty strength in the areas of Structural Engineering, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) with a focus on smart buildings. Although architectural engineering students also take a small dose of architecture courses, it is not an architecture degree. This program also offers a summer Study Abroad program in Europe.

UW Administrators, students and Wyoming community members attend an open house showcasing UW’s entry into the 2023 U.S. Department of Energy 20th annual Solar Decathlon Build Challenge. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home is located 10 miles southwest of Lander, overlooking Red Canyon. The project will implement multiple sustainable energy features such as a super insulated and air-tight envelope; advanced heating systems, including a heat pump and radiant floors; green building materials; and a large array of solar panels to ensure the home will produce more energy than it consumes on an annual basis. In the next stages of development, Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management students will help see UW’s entry through the final stages, resulting in a showcase of the home to the public using both in-person and 3D virtual tours. They will then present to jurors at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Attendees included President Ed Seidel, Dr. Gabrielle Allen, Dr. Jian Gong, Luke Macy Contractors Cory and Morgan Toye, of Timshel Construction,
