Preschool Rooms

Early Care and Education Center

The UW ECEC has three preschool rooms designed to interest and challenge mixed age groups of 2 1/2-5 year olds.  The day consists of opportunities for the children to explore different content areas such as art, science, fine and gross motor, dramatic play, and music, both individually and as a group.  In-depth projects encourage the children to work together and problem-solve ideas and solutions.  Teachers provide an environment that encourages cooperative work as well as providing opportunities for individual exploration and reflection.  As with the other rooms, parent involvement is always encouraged and welcome.

All of the lead teachers have bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education or professional child development.  The assistant teachers have an associate’s degree or equivalent experience and college coursework.

Hours are 7:30-5:30 during the school year and 7:30-4:30 during the summer. Each class has a full-time lead teacher and two half-day assistant teachers.  Typically, several aides assist in each class at transition times.  In the preschool rooms, a morning breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack is provided.
