Both the MS and PhD Economics Programs are STEM designated programs.
We do not offer waivers of the application fee.
All required documents should be uploaded to the online application system. Do not send any documents to the Department unless requested to do so.
The size of the program generally fluctuates between 40 and 50 students.
All PhD students accepted into our programs are normally offered graduate assistantships. The assistantship for PhD students includes a stipend plus full tuition and fees and the full cost of student health insurance, for up to four years. Often times outstanding students admitted to the Master's program are partially or fully funded depending on available funds. Additional summer research assistantships may also be available to students, ranging from $1,000 - $4,000 per summer.
On average, it takes four to five years to complete your PhD and three to four semesters to complete a masters degree.
The code for the GRE is 4855 to send to the University of Wyoming and 1801 to send it to the Economics department.

- 310 GRE (verbal + quantitative) -- for PhD applicants.
- 300 GRE (verbal + quantitative) -- for MS program applicants.
We do not accept PhD applicants for the spring semester. MS students are able to start in the spring under approval by the selection committee and graduate director.

The statement of purpose (one to three pages) should describe why you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Economics; how your professional, academic, and personal experiences led you to pursue this path and how they have prepared you for success in this degree program; what you hope to do following the graduate program; what your research interests are; what/who faculty research is of particular interest to you; and why the University of Wyoming is a good fit for you. You do not need to describe a particular research topic as you would in a research proposal. Feel free to correspond over email with faculty whose work interests you, and then to include their names in your SOP.
