Fees are calculated at a sliding rate. In order to qualify for reduced fees, documentation of income must be provided to the LRCC prior to making payments.

Our Focus
The LRCC is dedicated to helping children who need additional support with reading and/or writing. Working collaboratively with parents, teachers, school administrators, and Clinic faculty, tutors and coaches assess each child’s strengths and needs, and then implement appropriate research-based interventions. Children who participate have many different learning profiles. Some struggle just a bit, while others experience severe reading or writing difficulty. Some are diagnosed as having specific special education needs, while others are not eligible in their respective schools for special support services in reading and writing. Some do reasonably well in reading, but struggle in writing.

The tutoring clinic at the LRCC is fortunate to have built strong, long-standing relationships with families in Laramie. Each semester, we serve approximately 20–30 students, and many families return year after year. Some students have participated in the clinic for more than three years, allowing us to support their literacy growth over time. I have learned firsthand about the importance of assessment as a tool for teaching and the importance of using research-based practices to teach students. I have also realized in my math methods courses the importance of literacy for students to succeed in math. I will be implementing some of the ways we helped students with literacy at the LRCC in my future math classroom to help my students excel at the aspects of math that incorporate literacy!
