Application Materials
The Department of English requires the following materials to be included with the application for the English PhD in the Public Humanities:
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae
- Letter of Interest
- Writing Sample
- Unofficial Transcripts
- Letters of Recommendation
GRE scores are not required.
Resume/Curriculum Vitae
Please submit a resume or curriculum vitae that details your education and work history and which further supports your application materials.
Letter of Interest
Your letter of interest should not exceed 2 pages. The letter should include academic qualifications, relevant professional experiences (if any), anticipated areas of study and a description of a potential doctoral capstone project, and an explanation of how you see your scholarship and professional goals aligning with the public humanities. If interested in a graduate teaching or graduate research assistantship your letter should also describe your interest in and qualifications for these positions.

Applicants should provide a writing sample of 15-20 pages. The sample may be a single text or comprised of multiple examples of the applicant's academic writing and/or writing in public-facing genres.
Unofficial Transcripts
The Department of English requests that you submit copies of unofficial transcripts from each previous collegiate institution you attended.
Note: If admitted, The University of Wyoming will require you to send official transcripts directly to the Office of Admissions

Letters of recommendation
Please arrange for three references to send confidential letters of recommendation to UW. The application portal will prompt you to provide names and email addresses for your references. Recommenders will receive an email from UW Admissions with a link for submitting their recommendations. Letters may be written by academics, employers, and/or other professional references. If possible, at least one letter should be supplied by a previous professor.
Application Deadline February 1
Candidates are accepted for admission in Fall semester only. All decisions are made by committee. Applicants should expect to learn of their status in early April.
