Academic Personnel Dispute Resolution

The academic personnel grievance procedure is governed by UW Regulation 2-2. The Faculty Conciliator is Dr. Clifford Marks, Associate Professor, Department of English whose term ends June 2025.  The Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel membership is a University faculty-elected body, with terms rotating every three years.

Semptember 09, 2025 - The University of Wyoming is now accepting nominations for members and alternates to serve on the Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel, under UW Regulation 2-2. The Panel is integral to preserving a fair process for handling academic personnel disputes. Eligible candidates include tenured or extended-term faculty with no administrative duties who are respected for discretion, neutrality, and sound judgment. Submit all nominations—self-nominations welcome—to the Faculty Senate Office at faculty.senate@uwyo.edu. Submissions close September 25, 2025.

Call for Nominations - Faculty Conciliator
September 09, 2025 - The University of Wyoming invites nominations for the position of Faculty Conciliator, as authorized by UW Regulation 2-2. This office plays a vital role in mediating and resolving informal disputes among faculty and academic personnel prior to any formal grievance proceedings. Eligible nominees must be tenured (or extended term) faculty without administrative responsibilities. Ideal candidates are recognized for their fair judgment, confidentiality, and ability to support constructive dialogue. Candidates or nominators should submit the following information: 1. Nominee name, rank, department/college; 2/ Brief rationale (no more than 300 words) outlining why this individual is well-suited to serve as Faculty Conciliator; 3. Curriculum vitae or professional summary highlighting relevant experience in conflict resolution, academic governance, or related service. Information should be submitted to faculty.senate@uwyo.edu. Submissions close September 25, 2025.

Regulations

"Per UW Regulation 2-2, the Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel shall consist of eighteen (18) members elected for three-year staggered terms by ballot of the Faculty, from nominations made by the Faculty Senate. Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel eligibility shall be limited to tenured faculty and academic personnel on a fixed or extended term who hold no administrative assignment, with no more than six (6) members to be elected from the same college of the University. A pool of alternates for the Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel shall be established, comprised of nominees who are not elected; if a member of the Faculty Dispute Resolution Panel is removed or leaves the Panel, the alternate with the greatest number of votes will automatically fill the term of the departing member. "
