As part of the STEAM Education Alliance of the Americas program, two Ecuadorian students, Belén Benites from Ikiam Amazon Regional University and Damian Moya from the Armed Forces University – ESPE, had the unique opportunity to visit the University of Wyoming. The program was made possible through a scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by Partners of the Americas and Colorado’s Chapter. The experience represented more than an academic visit; it became a journey of cultural exchange, innovation, and global collaboration.
Arriving in Laramie, Wyoming, students received a warm welcome by the Global Engagement team, who created a space where learning felt dynamic and personal. Throughout the week, students explored research labs, connected with professors from fields such as Mechanical Engineering faculty, School of Computing, and the Department of Geology, as well as valuable networking opportunities with researchers and university staff.
One of the most impactful aspects of the program was experiential learning, which allowed the students to directly experience the educational environment in the United States. Outside the classroom, students experienced daily life in Wyoming, which made the exchange even more meaningful. It wasn't just about learning, but about connecting, sharing cultures, and building relationships that transcend borders.
For the Ecuadorian participants, Wyoming wasn't just a destination, but the beginning of new ideas, connections, and opportunities:

Belén Benites: “During my visit to the University of Wyoming, two things really stood out to me. First, the people: the Global Engagement staff were so welcoming, the professors talked about their research with such genuine excitement, and other international students were incredibly helpful. Second, the labs were top-notch, and walking through the 3D Viz Center and Data X Studio was honestly mind-blowing. All in all, it was such an amazing experience, and I left feeling really inspired!”
Damian Moya: “If I had to describe my visit to the University of Wyoming in one word, it would be wonderful. From the beginning, everyone was welcoming, guiding us, sharing their research, and making us feel at home. I was inspired by the campus’s cultural richness and the dedication in the labs, as well as the strong support students receive to develop their projects. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to engage with professors from the materials science field, whose insights enriched my experience. Without a doubt, this is a university where professors are committed to forming professionals with both excellence and genuine warmth.”
These interactions broadened knowledge and opened new perspectives on collaboration, innovation, and the role young leaders can play in a global context. The experience reaffirmed the importance of international educational programs in empowering young leaders.
