Teaching a range of environmental studies courses, Maggie works with and mentors students at every level and academic discipline while taking creative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approaches to understanding complex relationships among people and place.
Place—with all its layers, possibilities, and expressions—is the throughline of her work as an educator and scholar. For nearly 20 years, she has designed, implemented, and advanced interdisciplinary educational programs and curricula, facilitating experiences that invite students to explore the relationships, wonders, and complexities within the human and more-than-human worlds.
Her professional and academic background includes environmental studies, place-based education, philosophy, nonprofit leadership, and the performing arts. Her scholarly and creative work is best described as place studies—a field that spans geography, ecology, art, and the environmental humanities and social sciences.
Before joining the Haub School in 2010, she held positions with L.A. Theatre Works, Friends of Ballona Wetlands, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and Teton Science Schools, among others.
