A personal life of service in commitment to education and a professional life of service in commitment to country describe Phil Lantz's ultimate contributions within and beyond Wyoming's borders.
The foundation underpinning Lantz's appreciation for the responsibilities of service was learned at the side of his parents, Everett and Elizabeth Lantz. From them, the Laramie native learned the value of striving for excellence in everything one attempts and of the critical value of education and lifelong learning. A graduate of the University of Wyoming with a master's degree in mathematics (1966), he applied the lessons learned from his parents, and the leadership skills developed as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, to launch Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc., which would become one of the country's premier organizations operating in support of national security leaders. A visionary and influential leader, Lantz's accomplishments as an entrepreneur are driven by the desire to have a positive, meaningful impact on America's security and the strength of our nation's military. And his professional passions are matched only by his personal commitment to advancing education, particularly to the children and citizens of Wyoming. A dedicated volunteer and generous philanthropist, he has given his time, talents, and support to help elevate education at the University of Wyoming to new heights.
For all of your contributions, Phil Lantz, the University of Wyoming is honored to bestow upon you the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
