POCUS Training
Educating nurse practitioners, physician's assistans, and physicians how to better use their ultrasound units can help enhance patient care across the state. The University of Wyoming is providing Poing of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training to elligible facilities across the state of Wyoming. Topics covered include abdomen, vascular, cardiac, musculoskeletal, sterile procedures, OB/GYN, lung, and ER protocols. University staff offers on site trainings, community trainings, skills labs, and online access to the POCUS material. See more under the "events" section below.

Ultrasound Conference
Are you in need of continuing education credits? Consider attending our 2026 Ultrasound conference! This ultrasound conference will be hosted in Casper, Wyoming October 10-11. Stay tuned for a schedule and registration information!
In October 2025, the University hosted our first ultrasound continuing education conference. Speakers from Wyoming, Nebraska, Washington, and Colorado shared their expertise with attendees.
Collaboration with hqmeded
The University of Wyoming is excited to share that we are collaborating with High Quality Medical Education (HQMEDED)! Through this collaboration, providers will have an extended opportunity to enhance their POCUS education. (Access to these resources is dependent upon Helmsley elligibility).
HQMEDED will be hosting 4 Regional Conferences across the state of Wyoming

- Providers will have 24/7 access to recorded lectures, image banks, case studies and

HQMEDED Help Line
- This help line is available for providers as they have POCUS questions arise.
- Available from Mon-Fri, 8:00 a-12:00p for real-time image acquisition, interpretation, QA, billing, and credentialing questions.
Credentialing and Privileging Support
- A Credentialing and Privileging "tool kit" will be shared with Helmsley elligible facilities.
- The tool kit will help standardizing competency pathways, QA workflows, CPT billing/reimbursement guidance and more.

Professional Development Financial Support
The Helmsley Ultrasound Initiative is providing financial support for sonographers and aspiring sonographers. Through this support, applicants can submit their costs to be reimbursed. Costs that can qualify for reimbursement include:
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography School tuition and books
- Costs for registry exams
- Registration fees for CME events
- When in doubt, fill the form out!
University staff will contact you after you submit the form.

About the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust
The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has granted money to the state of Wyoming to purchase ultrasound machines and provide training to healthcare staff. The training is primarily focused on Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS). A goal of this initiative is to elevate the quality of patient care through the use of ultrasound.
