Wireless Access
Most of the study carrels in the library and the classrooms are hard wired for high-speed
Internet access. Also, Wireless Access is available to Faculty, Staff, Students and
Guests as long as they have a UW account used for security authentication and a laptop
with an 802.11b or 802.11g-compliant wireless network card.
The way laptops connect to this Wireless network may differ depending on the hardware
(brand/model), the software installed and user configuration. But in general, the
laptop automatically detects all the wireless networks available in the range (Uwyo
and UWguest in our case) and connects to one of them without user intervention.
If you are connecting to the secure WiFi (UWyo), please provide your UW username and
password when prompted.
Unlike the hard wired network, the wireless is less reliable, and there may be cases
when the authentication fails for no good reason. If this happens to you, please see
Edward (office 139) to discuss possible solutions.
Also, whenever you are using the College network, be aware of the University regulations
regarding the proper use of computing and data communication facilities (UNIREG 3-690).
